Top 5 Weirdest Animals

We have all watched Animal Planet and other television shows like Wild Kingdom that feature some pretty weird animals. I mean everyone has seen shows on such creatures as the duck billed platypus, or strange creatures from the ocean depths. Well in this hubpage we are going to talk about some of these strange animals that I would put on my Top 5 Weirdest Animals list. Some of them you might have already heard of or seen, but I bet a few of them you haven't.

This Madagascar native is called an Aye-aye or if you prefer its scientific name Daubentonia madagascariensis. These strange looking creatures are actually primates, and hold the title of the world's largest nocturnal primate.

This endangered primate has to be one of the weirdest animals in the primate family. In Madagascar this strange creature fills a void in the ecosystem because of the islands lack of woodpeckers. Aye-aye search for food just like the woodpecker except it has an elongated middle finger that it uses to tap on trees in order to find grubs, then when it locates one it gnaws a hole in the wood and inserts it elongated finger to pull out the grubs.

This is definitely one of those freaky weird animals that will get you looking at the fish you catch or eat just a little bit differently. This ugly looking parasite crawls into the gills of it's host fish, and then proceeds to wok it's way up to the mouth where it replaces the fish's tongue with it's own body. These things are just creepy looking!

Everyone has seen slugs out in their garden or lawn, but I be you have never seen anything like the Leopard slug. These huge slugs are weird looking to begin with but it is their strange mating ritual that has landed it on my list of Top 5 weirdest Animals.

These strange creatures to begin with are hermaphrodites, meaning that they have both male and female sex organs. The begin their mating ritual by creating a mucus string that they both slide down, and then while hanging in mid air from this mucus string they extend an incredibly large penis from their heads. These large flower looking penises then intertwine with each other and exchange sperm before the two leopard slugs drop down to the ground and crawl away.

This little guy is just disgusting looking. It is called a blob fish, which is a pretty fitting name for this strange creature. The blob fish is found in very deep water of of the coast of Australia and Tasmania so there is very little chance of you every catching one of these little guys while you are out fishing. That is pretty good to hear because I don't think that I could take this guy off the hook once I got it in the boat.

This is by far the weirdest animal on the list of Top 5 Weirdest Animals. His name is Mike the headless chicken. Mike started out life as a normal headed chicken at lest for the first five months of his life. Then On September 10, 1945, farmer Lloyd Olsen of Fruita, Colorado decided that Mike would be good to have for supper latter that night, but unfortunately Lloyd wasn't so good with the axe. He severed Mike's head, but missed the jugular vein leaving one ear, and most of the chickens brain stem intact.

You would think that such trama to any chickens head would be enough to do it in, but not Mike. He still walked around, balanced on his perch, and even tried to crow. Lloyd felt sorry for the poor chicken so instead of dispatching him then and there after the botched beheading Lloyd started feeding Mike with an eye dropper. Believe it or not Mike lived for another 18 months after the ordeal, and his story even made it into Life magazine!
